LAC standoff: Indian, Chinese military initiate disengagement near Ladakh; divisional commanders to meet today.Key Highlights:-1. Indian and Chinese armies are set to convene Major General-level talks on Wednesday as both sides are withdrawing troops and temporary infrastructure from the areas.New Delhi: India and China have been at loggerheads for decades, and time and again tensions escalate along the Line of Actual Control, even as impending threats loom along the Line of Control shared with Pakistan.Chinese military troops advance provocatively along the LAC with an intention to encroach Indian territory even after a plethora of warning sent out by the Indian government over the violation of the border treaty shared by the two countries.Over the past month, China’s People’s Liberation Army has continuously provoked the Indian Army near Ladakh, leading to a major standoff along the border, so much so that several reports emerged that claimed soldiers from both sides engaged in fist fights over territorial supremacy.
The Indian government, already overwhelmed by the deadly coronavirus pandemic that broke out in China’s Wuhan more than six months ago, dialled up the Chinese government and expressed its displeasure over the standoff.
Foreign ministry delegations from both countries spoke via video conferencing to diplomatically discuss a solution and end the impasse along the LAC near Ladakh and prevent it from escalating into a full-blown war.
